Levittown: A Stable, Family-Filled Community, Census Says
Census statistics from 2005-09 have been released, and numbers show this family-occupied community has very little geographic mobility.

The newly released 2005-09 statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau show that the traditional picture of Levittown as a place where families lay their roots has held true over recent years.
According to the census statistics, 95 percent of the 54,000 people living in Levittown have lived in the same residence for over a year. Of those few who have recently moved to the area, the majority came from other towns in Nassau County, and less than 0.5 percent came from another state or country.
There were 17,000 households in Levittown from 2005-09, and 82 percent of households were occupied by families. Traditional, married-couple families made up 66 percent of these family-run households. The average household size was 3.2 people, and single-unit homes make up 91 percent of Levittown housing,

Educational services, health care and social assistance accounted for the majority of Levittown residents' employment, with 25 percent working in one of these fields. Retail trade came in second with 12 percent.
The population by age greatly reflects the family-oriented status of Levittown. The median age is 40.5 years, with the largest percentage of the population (29 percent) being between 45 and 64 years old. A quarter of the population is between 25 and 44, and 24 percent are under 18. Young adults and senior citizens find themselves much less represented.

Females outnumber males 28,000 to 26,000, and female-run households with no husband make up the largest portion of the 3 percent of the population that is reported to be living below the poverty line.
The median monthly housing costs for mortgaged owners from 2005-09 was $2,604, and 52 percent of homeowners with mortgages spent 30 percent or more of their household income on housing.
More people are furthering their educations in Levittown than in 2000, with 92 percent of people 25 years old and over at least graduating from high school (up from 88.9 percent) and 28 percent attaining a bachelor's degree or higher (up from 22.5 percent).
The total school enrollment in Levittown in the past five years was 15,000.
