Levittown Intersection Reopens After Water Main Break
The break occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m.

A water main break closed the intersection of Orchid Road and Skimmer Lane and caused nearby Levittown homes to be without water Monday night.
Town of Hempstead Water Department plant manager and dispatcher William Fogarty said that the break occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. A crew was sent soon after to clean up the break. Fogarty said that the crew returned at approximately 10:35 p.m. The road was reopened shortly after 11 p.m.
According to Fogarty, the water was shut off in the surrounding area at approximately 7 p.m. Fogarty estimated that the water was turned back on at approximately 9 p.m. He continued to receive calls from residents after, but said at 11:10 p.m. that he hadn't received a call "in about an hour."

With temperatures below 40 degrees for most of the day, there was a risk of the water freezing on the road. In such cases, Fogarty said that the water department has the highway department send a sander to work on the road after the clean-up crew finishes.
"There's always that chance," he said. "That's why you have a sander nearby."
