Levittown Kids Talk Books, Crack Codes In Reading Program: PHOTOS
Levittown kids participated in book discussions, cracked codes and even had to "escape" their room like the story characters.

LEVITTOWN, NY — It might summer, but don't tell that to these students in Levittown Public Schools. Elementary and middle school students participated in the district’s annual Summer Reading Extravaganza, which encourages them to read during the long holiday and let them meet kids from other schools in the district.
Fifth graders in the program, which was held at the Levittown Memorial Education Center, participated in book discussions about their summer reading book, "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library," the district said in a news release. Students also engaged in team-building activities, such as an escape-the-room challenge, where they had to solve puzzles in a race against time to crack the code on their lock box and access the key.
"It was fun," said incoming East Broadway fifth grader Isabel Delgado. "I really liked doing the riddles."

Middle-schoolers participated in a book discussion about their book "Restart." Wisdom Lane and Jonas E. Salk middle-schoolers rotated through three different stations and participated in group activities related to their book, including connecting famous quotes with their reading and answering discussion questions. Students also made their own recycled beaded bracelets.
At each discussion day, students also received a raffle ticket to win prizes. Those who attended were also entered to win a meet-and-greet with the author of their book in the fall.
