Levittown Remembers September 11

Tuesday marks the 11th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, as America comes together to remember the victims.

Many Levittown residents who were impacted have shared their thoughts and stories with Patch about that horrific day. 

To remember the attacks on the 11th anniversary of 9/11, Patch has compiled a list of events and people that we covered during recent anniversaries:

  • Levittown Fire Department Honors Fallen Chief Ronald Kerwin: Ronald T. Kerwin was Chief of the Levittown Fire Department and Lieutenant of FDNY Squad 288. He died in the line of duty at the World Trade Center on 9/11. 
  • Remembrance of 9/11 at Levittown Veterans Memorial Park: a crowd of Levittown citizens gathered in the Veterans Memorial Park near the public library to honor those who lost their lives in the attacks. 
  • : The Levittown and East Meadow Kiwanis Clubs held a ceremony at Levittown Hall last year to honor victims of the terrorist attacks.
  • : Kevin W. Donnelly, longtime volunteer with the Wantagh Fire Department and Levittown resident, was among 26 Hofstra alums and one student who were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.  
  •  9/11 brought back strong memories for Feldmar's mother, who was a Holocaust survivor.
  • The Levittown resident was in 6th grade at Island Trees Memorial Middle School at the time of the attacks. 
  •  A member of the Long Island chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America responded to the 9/11 attacks. 
  •  Cassano and the rest of the Levittown community worked quickly to create the Levittown-Island Trees Emergency Relief Fund (LITE) to assist those affected by the attacks.
