LEVITTOWN, NY — Members of the community gathered over the weekend for the Levittown Public Schools' yearly Levittown Education Against Destructive Decisions Family Walk and Fair.

The event was held Sunday at the Levittown Memorial Education Center. The district hosts the family walk and fair each year at the end of LEADD Week, where students learn about health, wellness and the importance of making positive choices. The event also launches the district’s social emotional learning and awareness campaign for the 2019-20 school year.

"It doesn’t end today," Jordan Margolis, assistant director of pupil services, said in a news release. "Social emotional learning continues throughout the year and it’s really important that Levittown takes that so seriously."

Rain forced the festivities inside, but parade members marched inside the building from the lobby to the gymnasium where the fair was set up. Students and family members wore their best Halloween outfits for a costume contest, and East Broadway Principal Jeanmarie Wink was announced as grand marshal. Division Avenue High School senior Calagera Pagano and General Douglas MacArthur High School senior Mairead Gillespie were selected for serving as positive role models and leaders in their school and community.

During the fair, students and their families visited informational booths from a variety of community, student and parent organizations and clubs. They also played games, created crafts, mingled with fellow community members and more. At the end of the event, first, second and third place costume winners were awarded.
