Levittown Veteran Honored by Town of Hempstead

The Town of Hempstead presented a number of awards to a group of veterans, including one Levittown resident, during the town's annual Salute to Veterans Ceremony at Point Lookout Town Park on June 30.

A total of eight veterans were honored, including six 2012 Veterans Medal recipients and two Montford Point Marines who were presented with the town's Trailblazer Award.

John Brady of Levittown was the first to be honored:

Going beyond the call of duty is an understatement for John Brady. When John completed his active duty in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, it was by no means the end of his service to country. Instead, it was the start of another chapter, a story filled with kindness, care and respect.

John was a longtime member of the United States Army and Navy Reserves. He has served 25 years for Levittown’s American Legion Post.

To help ensure their health and safety, John volunteers to transport veterans to important medical appointments. John also goes out of his way to collect food and other necessities for needy veterans.

In addition, John helps to mold our future leaders as a post liaison for two Cub Scout packs. He is particularly proud of his work as a coordinator of programs geared toward children with special needs.

John Brady’s regard for others is a testament to his life of service to America, his community and his fellow veterans. With great pleasure and pride, the Town of Hempstead presents John Brady of Levittown with the 2012 Veterans Service Medal.

The other veterans honored were Lecia Rodriques-Whyte of Elmont, Tami Ellinport of Valley Stream, Frank Lowell Neal, Jr. of Hempstead, Stephen Nicolino of Freeport and Frank Colon of Rockville Centre.
