Levittown West Little Leaguers Fall in Williamsport District Championship Game

A 9-1 loss at Redwing Field ended the Levittown West run.

The Levittown West Little League lost the Williamsport District Championship against Plainview by a 9-1 score on Wednesday evening at Redwing Field.

After a scoreless first inning, Levittown West third baseman Robert McDermott put Levittown up 1-0 in the bottom of the second by singling a run in from third base. The lead was short-lived, however, as Plainview responded by plating five runs in the third inning. After a scoreless fourth, Plainview put the game out of reach in the fifth inning by scoring four more runs.

Pitching most of the game for Levittown West was Brandon O'Brien, who had five strikeouts. O'Brien's father, Terry, was proud of his son's performance throughout the tournament. "It's amazing just watching him play like he does," he said.

Coach Fressle reminded his team that they were seated second to last in the bracket and knocked off favored Hicksville to get to the championship.  "Continue to work hard, it always pays off," he told his team.

Coach Marcolini gave his team words of inspiration for next year: "Remember this feeling when you walk onto the field next year," he said. "You're all winners, and I'm proud of all of you."
