A Uniondale man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for a fatal shooting outside a church with parishioners standing by, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.

Jonathan Mack, 20, was sentenced by Judge George Peck after being found guilty in August of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, the DA said.

At 10:30 a.m. on June 30, 2013, Mack got into an argument with a woman on Hill Street in Uniondale, said the DA. During the argument, Isaac Andrews, 34, of Uniondale, approached Mack, who pulled out a handgun and shot Andrews three times, said the DA.

As Andrews fell, Mack fired a fourth shot that struck Andrews in the upper back, said the DA. Andrews was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center but died of his injuries.

Mack fled the scene and was found three weeks later in Florida, officials said.

“Jonathan Mack not only shot Isaac Andrews three times in broad daylight, with no regard for the safety of others who were celebrating Sunday church services nearby but he also fired a fourth shot as his victim fell, ensuring that Mr. Andrews would never have the chance to speak out against his assailant,” DA Kathleen Rice said in a statement Wednesday.

“Today, the criminal justice system has spoken on his victim’s behalf, and as a result, this defendant will be off our streets for a very long period of time.”
