Nassau Apartment Fire Displaces Residents

Only one person was taken to the hospital, but many were left homeless by the fire.

One woman was taken to the hospital and 20 people were displaced after a fire broke out in an apartment in Levittown Sunday night.

According to police, the fire was called in just after 11:30 p.m. for a condo at the Newbridge Gardens, located at 271 North Newbridge Road. East Meadow firefighters quickly responded, and were assisted by Levittown firefighters in battling the blaze. Multiple apartments were damaged by the fire, leaving 20 residents homeless.

The American Red Cross was at the scene to assist those who were displaced. The 68-year-old woman who owned the condo where the fire began was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation.

Police say the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, but it does not appear to be suspicious.
