New Yorkers Are No Fans Of Trump; Do You Approve Of The President's Performance? [POLL]

The president's approval ratings in his home state are among the lowest in the country.

President Donald Trump may be visiting Long Island this week, but he might receive a tepid welcome when he gets here. Most New Yorkers don't think Trump is doing a very good job as president. In fact, his approval rating in the state is among the lowest in the country.

The numbers come from data recently released by the Gallup polling group showing how Trump is viewed in each of the 50 states. The numbers, unsurprisingly, tend to correlate to the 2016 election results — states that voted for Trump tend to think he's doing better, while those that went to Hillary Clinton have a less favorable view of the president.

The data was collected by Gallup between Jan. 20 and June 30. In that time, Trump's approval rating in New York has been just 31 percent — among the lowest in the country. He is least liked in Vermont, where his approval rating is a dismal 26 percent. In contrast, Trump is very popular in West Virginia, where he has a 60 percent approval rating.

Gallup got New York's numbers by polling nearly 5,000 residents across the state, which is one of the largest sample sizes in the nation. While Trump's approval numbers are low, a whopping 62 percent of New Yorkers disapprove of the president. And 7 percent had no opinion.

It's probably not surprising that Trump isn't very popular in the Empire State, as Clinton easily beat him here back in November. Clinton earned 4.6 million votes to Trump's 2.8 million.

However, Trump did manage to eke out a small victory on Long Island, beating Clinton 642,595 to 636,105 among residents here. However, it wasn't a unanimous victory: Nassau County went to Clinton (332,154 vs. 292,025), while Suffolk went to Trump (350,57 vs. 303,951).
