The Levittown Athletic Club honored its best softball players at their annual fun day and awards ceremony, which took place this past Saturday at Azalea Road Park.

Over 300 local Levittown students play in the club's intramural softball program. The fun day and awards ceremony are not usually combined, but were this year.

The program also has nine travel teams ranging in age from 8-and-under to 16-and-under. It was a notable year for the travel teams, as two of them played in national tournaments. One of the club's three 12-and-under teams played in a PONY Nationals tournament in Cary, North Carolina, where they went 4-4. The other was the Levittown Slammers 16-and-under team, who placed third in the Babe Ruth 16-and-under Softball World Series last week.

"Their goal was to get to the World Series," LAC softball co-president Jeff Jones said of the 16-and-under Slammers. "90 percent of them were playing since they were in second grade. They made their goal."

The awards celebration and fun day signified the end of the summer season. The LAC's fall season will begin after Labor Day.
