Island Trees High School Embraces Online Lessons

(EFF Logo)

May 18, 2020 2020: Mt. Sinai, New York: Educational institutions everywhere are using technology to deliver ongoing educational programs. Island Trees high school students who are taking three specific Family and Consumer Sciences classes are being provided with several lessons that have been pre-recorded and represent outreach from “real world” business representatives. Equity First Foundation is ready and prepared to deliver online financial literacy and education now.

Three programs—1) The Bake Shop, 2) The International Chef, and 3) The Child Development Professional, are being delivered by Equity First Foundation through their interviews and presentations with Long Island professionals. The first two include food demonstrations and all three include career summaries from each presenter, and an evaluation form after the lesson is completed by the students. In addition, for the first two lessons, students receive recipes, financial aspects of the career and running a business, and a comparison between retail and wholesale costs. Thank you to the following presenters who generously gave of their time and expertise: Edward Henry, Strathmore Bagels; Chef Stephen Klch; Tiffany Castillo, This is my S.W.A.G. Foundation; Marty Greenstein, Event Pros Group; and Isabelle Rapacciulo, The Tiny Artist Studio.

These programs and others are being supported through the Perkins Grant by Nassau BOCES, and are available to consortium school districts only through this school year. Schools have no monetary outlay, and Equity First Foundation is ready to deliver these and other lessons for the next two months to all Nassau County high schools.
