Snow...Wind...Wlvac is on Duty
Be prepared now for the storm and follow our Facebook page for safety tips and updates.
A winter storm warning has been issued for our area. Expect heavy snow and high winds during this storm. Power outages are likely with this event. Chief Stephen Grippi states, “Our headquarters will be staffed with crews throughout the night tonight and tomorrow ready to answer calls during the storm. Please be sure to only call 911 for true emergencies during the storm as the emergency services will be fielding a high volume of calls and response, as the roads worsen, will become increasingly dangerous. Please do not leave your homes unless absolutely necessary for the duration of the storm. Please check in on any elderly or ill neighbors and make sure they are prepared as well.“
Prepare now for possible power loss, add warm clothes to your emergency kit, check batteries in flashlights, charge mobile devices, and bring pets and animals inside!
Be sure to include enough food, water, medical supplies, pet food and supplies, and anything that you use day to day to last for AT LEAST 72 hours in your emergency supply kit.

We advise that you bring your snow shovel inside your house, so you can shovel a path from the door to the driveway in case Emergency Crews need to access you and your loved ones. Packed down snow turns into a sheet of ice, which is unsafe for all.
If you are in good health and must shovel or using a snow blower, please take your time, take frequent breaks, stay hydrated, and stay warm by dressing in layers. President Michael Muccio states, “Snow shoveling may increase your risk for a Heart Attack. Colder temperatures and physical exertion increases the work load of the heart.” Some signs of a heart attack are chest discomfort, shortness of breath, and discomfort in other areas such as both arms, neck, stomach, jaw, and/or back. If you feel faint, dizzy, or have chest pains while you are shoveling, stop immediately and call 9-1-1.

Check on elderly neighbors, especially if power goes out. Some may be on home oxygen or without heat and will need assistance.
You can also help the Fire Departments by removing the snow from around the fire hydrants near your home.
We ask you to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary and use extreme caution.
