Tai-Show Owner to Repay $765,000 in Back Wages
Restaurant chain will also pay $62,000 fine.

The owner Tai-Show Sushi and Tai-Show Habachi has agreed to pay nearly $765,000 in back wages after a federal investigation revealed they were violating federal labor law, officials said.
Wen Chun Su, who owns a chain of five restaurants, including the Tai Show restaurants in Massapequa, East Setauket and Oakdale will also pay a $52,000 fine as part of a settlement with the U.S. Labor Department.
Since 2008, the chain had run afoul of the Fair Labor Standard Act's minimum wage , overtime and record keeping provisions, according to the feds.

They had an illegal arrangement in which tipped and non tipped employees were sharing tips, and the chain wasn't paying workers the minimum wage of $7.25 or the proper overtime provisions when they worked more than 40 hours a week.
Some employees were paid monthly salaries, without regard to how many hours they worked and some employees were paid off the books, officials said.

The suit was in December and was settled last week, a spokesman for the Labor Department said.
Su could not immediately be reached for comment.
