Town to Improve Gardiners Avenue Streetscape
The Hempstead Town Board approved the measure at Tuesday's meeting.
Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray, Councilman Gary Hudes and the Town Board approved a bid Tuesday to begin work on streetscape improvements on a stretch of Gardiners Avenue in Levittown.
The bid was awarded to Condos Brothers Construction Corp, which was the lowest bidder at $250,000. The project will include the installation of brick-paved walkways, Victorian street lights, benches and stylized trash receptacles. Enhancements will be made on the west side of Gardiners Avenue at the intersection of Jeffries Road, running north to the entrance of a municipal parking lot near Amber Lane. Construction is expected to begin in late April.
“Enhancing our downtowns is a positive undertaking for both the neighboring businesses and residents,” Murray said. “It will beautify our community and continue upgrades that we’ve already started along Gardiners Avenue and support local home values.”

“Streetscape improvements to Gardiners Avenue are a welcomed upgrade to this important business district in Levittown,” Hudes said.
This is the second phase of the town’s work to upgrade this popular business and shopping area in Levittown. Streetscape upgrades were recently completed nearby on Gardiners Avenue in front of the Gardiners Plaza Shopping Center near White Lane, running south to the front of the Levittown Post Office.

The streetscape projects along Gardiners Avenue highlight important progressive initiatives for Levittown’s neighbors. Levittown recently welcomed the opening of a new Ford dealership on Hempstead Turnpike. Construction is underway on a new Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology Center at the lot next to the dealership.
“We are pleased to welcome new businesses in our township,” Murray said. “This, along with the streetscape enhancements, paves the way for a bright future for Levittown’s business district.”
