Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 7:30 p.m in the Levittown Public Library Community Room

President Theodore Roosevelt is well known as a Long Islander, but a number of presidents or their wives also had some connection with Long Island, sometimes before or after their presidency. George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson are among the many presidents who visited the island. Among the first ladies, Anna Symmes Harrison and Julia Gardiner Tyler, are identified with eastern Long Island.

Presented by Dr. Natalie Naylor who is retired from Hofstra University where she taught American social history, women’s history, and Long Island history. Her 2012 book, Women in Long Island’s Past, includes a chapter on Long Island’s five first Ladies.

This program is sponsored by the League of Women Voters, with coordination of the library. No prior registration is necessary.
