VIDEO: Residents Protest Hempstead Town Animal Shelter

Hope for Hempstead Shelter and other community members protest again.

Hope for Hempstead Shelter supporters hit the streets yet again to raise awareness about allegations surrounding the Hempstead Town Animal Shelter.

Among their concerns are bloated salaries, inefficient budget management, alleged animal neglect and abuse and corruption.

However, this time protestors are also calling for an investigation into whether another current Hempstead Town employee was present in the Kill the Kitty YouTube video.

Hempstead Town officials called the latest version "heavily edited" and a "rehash."

"In fact, the town responded swiftly to the video, removing the acting director from the shelter," said Hempstead Town Communications Director Mike Deery. "The re-released video provides no new or conclusive evidence as to the identity or activities of other town employees beyond those previously identified. It is shocking and disappointing that someone would heavily edit for dramatic effect the material of a video that should be viewed seriously without sensational video and sound editing."

Among the protestors were Derek Donnelly, director of Hope for Hempstead Shelter, Legis. Dave Denenberg, D-Merrick, and Gary Port, attorney and candidate for Hempstead Town supervisor.
