17-Year-Old Charged With Shooting Of North Amityville Teen: PD

The teenager was shot not long after a fight occurred between 2 groups of teenagers, police say.

NORTH AMITYVILLE, NY — A 17-year-old girl was arrested and charged on Thursday for shooting and injuring another teenager last week, Suffolk County police said.

The 17-year-old was charged on Thursday with second-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and first-degree reckless endangerment, police said.

On July 6, at about 8:35 p.m., two groups of females were engaged in a verbal dispute on Cahill Street when one of them fired a shot from a handgun, police said.

The bullet struck a 16-year-old North Amityville girl in the leg, police said.

Everyone involved in the dispute, except the 16-year-old, fled the scene before officers arrived, police said. The teenager was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
