57 Suffolk Beaches Closed To Bathing After Heavy Rainfall
Those who wanted to hit the water after the rain subsides will have to wait just a little longer.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY - Due to heavy rainfall on Tuesday, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services has issued an advisory against bathing at 57 beaches this week.
The advisory was issued because of the potential presence of bacteria at levels that exceed New York State standards.
The beaches covered by the advisory are located in areas that are heavily influenced by stormwater runoff from the surrounding watersheds and adjacent tributaries.

These beaches are located in an enclosed embayment and experience limited tidal flushing.
Health officials recommend that bathing and other water contact be suspended at these areas until the waters have been flushed by two successive tidal cycles or at least a 24-hour period after the rainfall.
