73-Year-Old Man Struck by Car in West Islip

A 73-year-old West Islip man was seriously injured when he was struck by a car in the West Islip CVS parking lot Friday evening.

According to police, James Pannell was walking into the parking lot of the CVS, located at 499 Montauk Highway, when he was struck by a 2002 GMC pickup truck that was traveling westbound and making a left turn into the lot at about 6:05 p.m.

Pannell was transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was listed in serious condition with a head injury.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 51-year-old Dix Hills man, was not injured and remained at the scene, police said.

A safety check was conducted on the vehicle and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Third Squad detectives at 631-854-8352.
