85-Year-Old Woman Killed in N. Lindenhurst Crash

The two-car crash occurred Saturday afternoon, police say.

NORTH LINDENHURST, NY - An 85-year-old woman was killed and two others suffered minor injuries in a two-car crash in North Lindenhurst Saturday afternoon, police said.

According to police, 20-year-old Ronald Scagnelli, of Lindenhurst, was driving his 1988 Pontiac Firebird north on Straight Path when his vehicle collided with a 2004 Hyundai Elantra that was traveling west on 47th Street at about 1 p.m.

The driver of the Elantra, Mary Mazur, 86, of North Lindenhurst, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where she was treated for minor, non-life threatening injuries. Her passenger, Marie Novak, 85, of 47th Street, was transported to Good Samaritan, where she was pronounced dead.

Scagnelli was taken to Good Samaritan to be treated for minor, non-life threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. No criminal charges have been filed.
