Amityville Man Steals Money From Donation Boxes at Church: Police
The 49-year-old used a large rock to smash open the boxes, police say.

MASSAPEQUA, NY - An Amityville man is accused of stealing money from donation boxes at a Massapequa church.
According to police, 49-year-old Mark Spruill entered Our Lady of Lourdes Church, located at 855 Carmans Road, through an unlocked door and used a large rock to smash open donation boxes around 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
Spruill removed an undisclosed amount of money from the boxes and then fled the scene, police said.

An investigation led to Spruill’s arrest on Saturday, police said. He is charged with third degree burglary, petty larceny, third degree criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools. He was due to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
