SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY - Suffolk County officials announced an overall decrease in crime for 2019 during a press conference last week. Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart addressed the crime statistics for this years, comparing them to last year's statistics alongside Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. Officials said crime across the county, which is already reportedly at historic lows, is down from 2018.

"Suffolk County has been and continues to be one of the safest counties anywhere in the United States, and it is getting safer everyday," Bellone said.

According to Hart, police report an overall drop in crime by nearly 5 percent since last year. Violent crime also decreased by 5 percent in the third quarter compared to last year and property crime has dropped 4.5 percent this year compared to 2018.
