Bicyclist Seriously Hurt After Being Hit by Postal Truck in North Lindenhurst

The accident occurred Friday morning.

A 60-year-old West Babylon is in serious condition in the hospital after he was struck by a U.S. Postal Service truck while he was riding his bike in North Lindenhurst Friday morning, police said.

According to police, Richard Roth was crossing Route 109 when the truck traveling southbound on Straight Path attempted to make a left turn onto Route 109 and stuck the bicyclist at 6 a.m.

Roth was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he is listed in serious condition. The driver of the postal truck, a 56-year-old Ridge man, was not injured. No criminal charges have been filed.

The Motor Carrier Safety Section conducted a safety check on the postal truck. The investigation is continuing and anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
