Elderly Pedestrian Seriously Injured In Copiague Crash; Driver Arrested: Police
An 85-year-old Lindenhurst woman was hospitalized after being struck while crossing Montauk Highway on Wednesday morning.
COPIAGUE, NY — An 85-year-old woman was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Copiague on Wednesday morning, according to Suffolk County police.
The crash happened at approximately 7:36 a.m. at the intersection of Montauk Highway and South Strong Avenue, according to Suffolk County police.
Police said Rose Marie Schementi, 85, of Lindenhurst, was crossing Montauk Highway from south to north when she was struck by a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander.

The vehicle was being driven by Frederick Finger, 74, of Copiague, who was attempting to make a left turn onto eastbound Montauk Highway from South Strong Avenue at the time of the crash, police said.
Schementi was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where she was admitted with serious injuries, according to police.

Finger was arrested and charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said. He was issued a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
