Lindenhurst Chamber Honors Outgoing Treasurer

Mayor issues proclamation declaring it Frank Garofalo Day as 11-year Chamber of Commerce officer moves on.

The took a moment during its most recent installation ceremony to recognize 11 years of service of its outgoing treasurer Frank Garofalo.

It was an opportunity for the Chamber, which met at the on , to salute the service of a man who not only showed persistence in watching over the organization’s finance, but was a key figure "behind the scenes" in support of Chamber functions.

In recognition of that service, Mayor Tom Brennan presented Garofalo with a proclamation declaring December 15 Frank L. Garofalo Day in Lindenhurst and a key to the village. His wife Carol was presented with a bouquet of flowers.

Garofalo and his wife are well-known figures in Lindenhurst. They've been married since 1970, and have two sons and three grandchildren.

In the 1970s Frank worked as a teacher at Roosevelt High School, but in 1978, he started a new career with the United States Post Office in Hicksville. He was appointed postmaster in Oyster Bay from 1986 to 1989, and then was appointed the Lindenhurst postmaster and served in that position from 1989 to 2004.

That month Frank retired from the post office, but not Lindenhurst. In fact, from 2004 to 2010, he worked for in North Lindenhurst.

In addition to serving on the board of directors of the Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce, he's served on the board of directors for the Lindenhurst Breast Cancer.

In addition to recognizing Garafolo, the Chamber installed a full slate of officers and directors during the meeting.

Returning board of directors include Lou Bongiorno, Sandy Buttacy, Carol Aliperti, Fran Rosato and John Reynolds.

New directors elected to the board include Craig Chase, a resident of Lindenhurst since 1978 who worked 23 years at Shearson Lehman Brothers and 13-plus years at ORC Guideline; and Barbara Formica, a five-year chamber member who operates Wellness Creator, which she operates from her home.

Michael Flaherty, operations manager of BMB Consulting LLC, a computer consulting firm located in North Babylon, went from an interim director position, appointed by the Chamber president, to the elected position of director.

The Chamber's executive board consists of JoAnn Boettcher (president); Jeff Lambert (vice president); Donna Fairchild (secretary); and Tina Napolitano, an accountant in Lindenhurst since 2004 and a Chamber board member since 2007, was named the new treasurer, taking Garofalo‘s place.

Napolitano grew up in Kew Gardens, took a degree in accounting at Pace University and obtained a license as a tax accountant in 2002. Her first office was in Farmingale, but in 2004 she decided to open an office in Lindenhurst and moved to the community. She’s been a regular member of the Chamber since 2007, and the same year became part of its board of directors.
