Children's Arts and Crafts Workshop

Ages 6-10 - All Materials are included
9:00am-11:00am

In Children's Arts and Crafts Workshop - ATM13, the instructor, Christine Roepken(Animation and Studio art
teacher at the USDAN Center for creative and Performing Arts and freelance comic book artist andillustrator) planned a fun spring project that combines clay-making and paper folding, in bright colors, to create a beautiful wall mounted flower pot! Students will learn slab, and coil clay construction to build this functional yet decorative flower pot, that can be placed on any wall in the home! The simple colorful flowers are made in the traditional Japanese art style of paper folding, also known as Origami, and adorned with colorful little buttons in the flower's center. A perfect Mother's day gift! All materials will be provided by the instructor; students should bring a smock to protect clothing from acrylic paints. If there is extra class time, students will also be working on a second "Surprise" project! "

Ages 11-14 - All Materials are included
12:00pm-2:00pm

In Children's Arts and Crafts Workshop - ATM14, the instructor planned an optional spring themed project that combines 3-d construction with cardboard and paper, design, and color, to showcase each students own personal
mementos and achievements. This shadow box uses their favorite spring colors in acrylic paint, a decorative paper design, as well as their own personal trinkets signifying spring and renewal placed in each separate compartment. The instructor adores Asian culture, therefore the shadow box frames birds, butterflies, and flowers built from paper into origami, one of her favorite creative activities. Guaranteed to be a great personalized piece in each
student's home! Since this is such a personal project, student is required to bring at least three small personal mementos (no larger than 3 in x 3 in x 3 in, please) to showcase in the shadow box. Items can be small objects of personal importance, small athletic/academic trophies or medals, photos of friends and family, even small toys from childhood are perfectly fine. The spring theme is actually not required but is given as a guideline. If there is extra class time, students will also be working on a second "Surprise" project!
