Harding Dresses Up History

Students took part in projects such as painting historical scenery, which served as a backdrop for the "wax museum" they created.

From Lindenhurst Union Free School District: Students in Gina Krumholz’s and Caitlin Farrell’s fifth-grade classes at Harding Avenue Elementary School in the Lindenhurst Union Free School District recently worked together to research important figures from the Civil War. They took part in projects such as painting historical scenery which served as a backdrop for the “wax museum” they created. Students dressed up as Civil War characters and classes throughout the school took turns visiting the exhibit.

Harding Avenue’s fifth-grade students also took part in the “Abraham Lincoln: From Rail Splitter to President” presentation with actor, singer and story maker Lou DelBianco. Dressed as President Lincoln, Mr. DelBianco shared stories of Lincoln’s life, acting out anecdotes and reading from historical documents.

“My hope is that the students recognize the perseverance needed by Abraham Lincoln to not only educate himself but to become a legislator, a lawyer and then president of the United States.”
