The Lindenhurst School District held its annual legislative breakfast, sponsored by the Parent Teacher Association Council, with more than 100 people in attendance. Guests of honor included New York State Sen. Philip Boyle, Suffolk County Leg. Kevin McCaffrey and New York State Assemblyman Robert Sweeney.
The forum began with introductions and a video on the Gap Elimination Adjustment. The politicians spoke candidly on issues that affect the district, such as Common Core, universal pre-K, Long Island schools getting their fair share of tax dollars, the Triborough Amendment, unfunded mandates, the Consumer Price Index and the GEA.
The setting was an ideal opportunity for all Lindenhurst residents, students and parents to voice opinions, ask questions and meet with lawmakers regarding important topics for the school district. An appeal to the politicians to give the Lindenhurst School District additional funding was made. “We will work hard to try to get additional funding with no restrictions for the Lindenhurst School District,” said Sen. Boyle.
