The Lindenhurst Diner, a place where countless locals have made memories for over six decades, is closing.
The iconic diner on Montauk Highway will shut down for good on Sunday afternoon, owner John Loizides told Patch.
Loizides said a developer approached the diner and made the Loizides family an offer for the property.

“So sad, another piece of my history gone,” Theresa Szabo Colosono wrote on the Clean Up Lindenhurst Facebook page. “This is where my parents meet, my mom was a waitress and she always forgot the onions my dad wanted on his burger...”
Loizides said the diner’s loyal customers are “heartbroken” and there have many tears shed in recent days.
“We will miss them as well,” said Loizides, whose parents first opened the diner on Wellwood Avenue before it moved to its current home at 195 Montauk Highway.
A large red banner currently hanging outside the diner reads: “Thank You! to All our Patrons for 61 Wonderful Years.”
Loizides said he did not know what the developer planned to do with the property.
