Daniel Street School Closed For 2 Weeks Due To Coronavirus
The school will operate fully remote starting Monday after two staff members recently tested positive for coronavirus.
LINDENHURST, NY — Daniel Street Elementary School will be closed for the next two weeks after two staff members recently tested positive for coronavirus, the school district announced on Sunday.
On Friday, Superintendent Daniel Giordano announced in a letter to the community that the first employee tested positive for COVID-19. That staff member has not been in school since Thursday. Then on Sunday, he sent a second letter stating that official learned of a second staff member who tested positive. The second employee was last in school on Friday. Both have been quarantined and will not be allowed to return to school until the Suffolk County Department of Health Services (SCDHS) releases them from isolation.
After conducting a contact tracing investigation, officials found that a "significant number" of staff had close or proximate contact with the COVID positive employees, according to the school district. Those people, none of which are exhibiting any coronavirus symptoms to date, are required to quarantine and monitor their health for 14 days from the date of last contact with the positive staff members.
