Lindenhurst High School Names 2018 Valedictorian, Salutatorian

Congratulations to both students!

LINDENHURST, NY - Lindenhurst High School named the Class of 2018 valedictorian and salutatorian.

Sahil Kapoor was named valedictorian while Luke Korzenko was named salutatorian.

With a grade point average of 103.58, it is no wonder that Kapoor will lead this year’s graduation procession.

Kapoor, who was recently recognized during the annual senior award ceremony, was the recipient of several awards and scholarships including the NYS Scholarship for Academic Excellence Outstanding Achievement in Advanced Placement Calculus, National Honor Society Gila Gevint Memorial Award and the Lindenhurst Council of PTA Dr. Anthony J. Pecorale Scholarship, among others.

As an AP Scholar with Distinction he challenged himself academically with several Advanced Placement courses, such as AP World History I and II, U.S. history, English language, calculus, biology, chemistry and physics.

His passion for science has lead Kappor to Cornell University where he will study biological engineering in September through the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

In addition to immersing himself in his academics, Kapoor has involved himself in countless activities and clubs.

In addition to serving as president of the National Honor Society, he is also a member of the school’s student and class councils, the Interact and Lindy Cares clubs, science club and DECA and all in addition to playing
varsity badminton.

Korzenko is described as having “innate goodness, intelligence and natural leadership qualities.”

These qualities coupled with maturity and a strong character have led to his success.

A National Merit Scholarship Commended Student and AP Scholar with Distinction, Luke has certainly earned his place at the top not only challenging himself academically, but also involving himself heavily with the school’s music program.

Korzenko served as the president of the Lindenhurst Tri-M Music Honor Society, and played in the school’s Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Ska Band and the Pit Orchestra for the various school musicals.

In addition, he was chosen to represent Lindenhurst in the SCMEA All-County Jazz Band and the High School All-County Instrumental Jazz Ensemble.

A member of the National Honor Society and Science club as well, Korzenko has found a way to blend his love of art and science, and plans to study architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York in September.
