Lindenhurst MS Students Combine Ingredients And Subjects
The students prepared apple crisps while using cutting, measuring, and baking skills in class.

From Lindenhurst Schools: Seventh-grade students in teacher Roseanne Giugliano’s Family and Consumer Science course at the Lindenhurst Middle School explored history and recognized the birthday of American pioneer John Chapman, known more commonly as Johnny Appleseed, in a delicious way.
Known for introducing the apple tree to various parts of the United States, the students honored Johnny’s birthday and strengthened their culinary skills such as measuring, cutting and baking, as they worked in groups to create apple crisps.
“Family and Consumer Science is a program that enriches student learning, as it lends itself to cross-curricular learning opportunities,” said Ms. Giugliano. “We are able to utilize the information obtained by students in their core subjects, and create real-world applications where they can go deeper into the subject matter.”
