Man Critically Injured After Crashing Into Tree in Deer Park

A Queens man was critically injured after his 2001 Lexus crashed into a tree in Deer Park Thursday afternoon, police said.

Vijay Mara, 29, was driving south on Commack Road when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree on the side of the road, north of Nicolls Road, at about 1:55 p.m.

The car overturned, pinning Mara in the car. Deer Park firefighters were able to extricate Mara, who was then transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he is in critical condition.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
