Man Struck, Killed by Car in Copiague

A 45-year-old man was struck and killed by a car in Copiague early Friday morning, police said.

According to police, Juan Vinas-Marte was attempting to cross Great Neck Road at the intersection of Dixon Avenue when he was struck by a Honda Accord that traveling southbound on Great Neck Road at 3:40 a.m.

Vinas-Marte, of Copiague, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda, Jean Tatjana, 44, of Amityville, was not injured.

Vinas-Marte was carrying a mini-refrigerator when he was struck, Newsday reported.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
