Middle Schoolers Learn About Railroad Safety
Students learn about being safe on the railroad and crossing the tracks.
Chrisann Fabio, the Community Relations Specialist in the System Safety Department of the Long Island Railroad, visited Lindenhurst Middle School’s Family and Consumer Science classes and spoke about railroad track safety.
The school program called T.R.A.C.K.S. (Together Railroads And Communities Keeping Safe) is dedicated to addressing the issues and insuring the safety of the LIRR customers, employees and communities.
Each year, young children, teenagers and young adults are injured and lose their lives as a result of train accidents. The lesson emphasized the importance of staying off the tracks, platform safety, railroad crossings and the dangers of the third rail.
“The key is control; always be in control of yourself,” said Ms. Fabio. “With trains, you can’t say ‘hold on a minute.’”
