Narcan Used to Revive Teen Who Overdosed on Heroin in Massapequa

Second time in 10 days Narcan has been used in Massapequa.

For the second time in 10 days, the powerful opioid antidote Narcan was used in Massapequa Sunday to revive a person who overdosed on heroin, police said.

According to police, officers were called to a Merrick Road residence around 9:40 p.m. for a 19-year-old male who was unconscious and having difficulty breathing.

Upon arrival it was determined that the man, who was turning blue, had overdosed on heroin, police said.

A dosage of Narcan was administered to the teen, who shortly thereafter regained consciousness, police said. He was then transported to an area hospital for further treatment and is listed in stable condition.

On Aug. 28, a 27-year-old man who overdosed on heroin in Massapequa was also revived with Narcan. Police did not say where in Massapequa that incident occurred.

Officials say Nassau County has seen a 100 percent increase in overdoses in a period of a year.
