New Long Island Rail Road timetables go into effect this week and continue through November 6 on all branches – including the Babylon line which runs through Lindenhurst – due to track maintenance projects.
The LIRR said in a statement on its website that projects include “a thorough clean-up on the main line right-of-way, the installation of new rail ties between Babylon and Sayville on the Montauk branch and crossing renewals on the main line and Long Beach branches.”
The clean-up includes the removal of scrap metal and other debris along the main line, the railroad said.

On-going projects that continue to impact train schedules, according to the LIRR, include East Side Access work in Harold Interlocking and Atlantic Avenue Viaduct repairs.
The agency advised riders using the LIRR on the branches affected by the maintenance and repair work should allow extra travel time when planning a trip.

Whenever possible, said the LIRR, it’ll schedule maintenance work during off-peak periods, such as midday during the week and on weekends, to minimize the impact on most customers who use the railroad during the morning and evening rush hours to get to and from work.
For detailed information on all of the schedule changes, customers are advised to pick up a copy of the new September 12 to November 6 timetables for their station or branch at LIRR stations and terminals.
