New York Has The Highest Tax Burden In America: Report

NEW YORK - With Tax Day quickly approaching on April 17, many locals complain about the taxes they have to pay – and with good reason.

New York was recently ranked as the state with the highest tax burden in the nation, according to a recent list complied by WalletHub.

Tax burden looks at the total personal income that residents pay toward state and local taxes.

In order to determine which states tax their residents most aggressively, the website compared all 50 states based on residents' property taxes, individual income taxes, and sales and excise taxes.

New York had the highest tax burden followed by Hawaii and Maine.

Alaska came in as the state with the lowest tax burden.
