Police: Heroin Addict Charged in Lindenhurst Bank Robbery

The 24-year-old also tried to rob a Deer Park bank, police say.

An admitted heroin addict has been charged with robbing a Lindenhurst bank and trying to rob another in Deer Park earlier this month, police said.

Tony Diaz, 24, of Deer Park, was arrested on Thursday and charged with third degree robbery and third degree attempted robbery.

Using video surveillance, Pattern Crime Unit detectives identified Diaz as the man who robbed the Capital One Bank, located at 300 South Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst on Sept. 9, police said.

Further investigation revealed that Diaz also attempted to rob TD Bank located at 2178 Deer Park Avenue in Deer Park on Sept. 12, police said.

Detectives placed Diaz under surveillance and he was subsequently arrested on Thursday without incident, police said.

Diaz was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
