Police: Lindenhurst Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash

A 45-year-old Lindenhurst man was killed Monday morning when he was thrown from his motorcycle after it was sideswiped by a car, police said. 

The accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. on North Wellwood Avenue at 5th Street in North Lindenhurst, police said. 

According to police, Douglas Shapiro was riding a 2013 BMW motorcycle northbound on North Wellwood when it was sideswiped by a 2007 Chrysler. 

Shapiro was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. 

The driver of the Chrysler, Maria Martinez, 38, of West Babylon, was not injured. No criminal charges have been filed.
