Police: Man Hit by Car in Babylon Critically Injured

An East Northport man is in critical condition in the hospital after he was hit by a car while attempting to cross a road in Babylon Thursday night, police said.

According to police, Clifford Hammond, 47, was crossing Main Street at North Carll Avenue when he was struck by a 1999 Kia that was traveling west at about 10 p.m.

Hammond was transported by Babylon Rescue to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was listed in critical condition, police said. The driver of the Kia, a 73-year-old West Babylon man, was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact First Squad detectives at 631-854-8152.
