UPDATE: Wyandanch Man Dies After Being Hit by Taxi

Update: Alex Medina, of Wyandanch, has been identified as the man who was struck. He was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, police said.

A 38-year-old man was seriously hurt after he was struck by a taxi while he was attempting to cross a road in Copiague early Saturday, police said. 

According to police, the man was trying to cross Great Neck Road at Campagnoli Avenue when he was hit by a southbound Sunset Airport and Limousine Service taxi at 1:38 a.m.

The man, whose name was withheld by police pending notification of family was transported via Copiague Rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he is listed in critical condition, police said.

The taxi driver, Robert Miller, 52, of Lindenhurst, was not injured.

No criminal charges have been filed. 

Police are continuing to investigate the crash and are asking anyone with information to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
