Police Release Additional Details On Lindenhurst Hit-And-Run

LINDENHURST, NY - Suffolk Police have released additional details on Friday on a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Lindenhurst last month.

Detectives determined that the car involved was a black 2005 to 2008 Hyundai Sonata. Investigators believe the vehicle may have damage to the passenger side front fender and door and is missing the passenger side mirror.

On Feb. 17, Suffolk County Police received a 911 call at about 6:15 a.m. reporting that a man was walking in the lanes of travel on northbound North Wellwood Avenue near Herzel Boulevard.

About five minutes later, police received a 911 call from a different caller reporting that the man was now lying in the road.

An investigation determined the 27-year-old man, of Brooklyn, was struck by a vehicle which fled the scene.

The man, who police did not name, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of multiple broken bones and a head injury.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
