From Lindenhurst Schools: The Pride of Lindenhurst Award is presented annually in recognition of an outstanding contribution that inspires pride in the Lindenhurst Union Free School District.

The award is given in several categories. This year’s Pride of Lindenhurst in the community category was given to Mr. Bill Atkinson who has spent the last 50 years serving the children of Lindenhurst through the Lindenhurst National Little League Association.

Supervisor of Payroll and Benefits, Elizabeth Meinster was recognized as the staff recipient of the prestigious award for the 28 years of hard work and dedication she has put forth on behalf of the district. Also recognized with a Pride of Lindenhurst Award, were the members of the Interact Club, a community club who works with the local Rotary Club and Rotary International to complete service projects that improve their community and the world around them. The awards were announced at the Lindenhurst Board of Education Community Forum on June 13, at the McKenna Administration Building. At that meeting, the Sims family, of Sims Steel in Lindenhurst were recognized with the Yale Award. Alleghany Avenue Elementary School Principal Laura Newman, who will retire at the close of the school year, received the Harvard Award. Several Lindenhurst High School students were also recognized for obtaining the New York State Seal of Biliteracy. The seal was established to recognize high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing in one or more languages, in addition to English.
