Small Group Of Protesters Gather In Front Of Babylon Town Hall
The small group received honks and cheers from some cars driving by on Sunrise Highway during the protest Tuesday afternoon.

LINDENHURST, NY — A small group of protesters gathered in front of Babylon Town Hall in Lindenhurst on Tuesday. The group held signs with phrases like "We won't stop until you stop" and "Justice for all." As they chanted, some cars passing by on Sunrise Highway honked and cheered in support.
Among the protesters was Amityville resident Ada Jefferson, who said she came out to bring awareness to social injustice. She felt empowered to do something after the death of George Floyd last month.

"I think it opened up the eyes of so many people who are really closed minded to the situation," she told Patch. "That was a big wake up call for the world but there's still a lot of work to do. So many people are in denial about racism. A lot of people when you bring it up, they're uncomfortable and they don't want to talk about it or they don't want to hear about it or they think because they haven't experienced it, it doesn't exist. But [racism] is very much alive."

Jefferson, a lifelong Long Island resident, says she never thought she would see all the communities come together in protest.

"It's more than just one race fighting for justice. when you see all of the races coming together and saying 'this isn't right, this isn't fair' that's what's going to change the world," she said. "It's going to take communities from all races to bring this issue down to ground. Unity is what's going to heal the world. Not one race is greater than any other race but if we can learn to live together and love each other as humans, we can begin to heal and build something together."

She came out to town hall, expecting to be there by herself, because she was "tired and frustrated" at the current situation and wanted to do something to get her voice out. However, to her surprise a few more people joined her Tuesday afternoon.
