It has been almost one year since our lives have been rocked around like a roller coaster. Some families are home and some are still displaced. We would like to take this time to give hope and support to families still in limbo as well as have the families who have come back to their homes provide hope and inspiration to to everyone else.
Please consider joining us for this community event. It will be brief, a 15 minute photo montage of the past year, and a short song with a candle lighting. We would like to raise awareness as well- about the plight so many families are still experiencing- so many aren't back home, so many haven't been able to rebuild because of red tape- and to raise awareness about how many families have fought and made it back into their homes, to show that it is possible. Colored necklaces will be given out to show who is home and who is still displaced. Please being a chair. We will be sending out emails to our affected residents to RSVP for specific color necklaces.
Most of all, we would like this brief but significant event to serve as an opportunity to honor all of the affected residents; all of the individuals that have stepped up and given time, effort, donations, belongings and moral and emotional support to others; the community as a whole for pulling together in such a time of crisis; the organizations like Camp Bulldog, Lindy Manpower, Sandy Support Massapequa Style, Lindy Alum Looking To Help your Hometown, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Lindenhurst Community Cares, Friends of LI: Communities helping communities post-Sandy, M.I.C.K, LI Cares, Project Hope and others that have aided so many in a multitude of ways; the local government officials who pushed for their residents to get more assistance, more information, more resources; all of the unaffected families that didn't suffer a loss themselves but were deeply affected by the immediate crisis and past year's struggle they all have family or friends that were hit by this all; and to honor the fact that, as a community, we are still all in this together.
To give us a chance to reflect on how far we have all come, what an impact our affected families, neighbors, friends and families have made; on how much rebuilding has come and on how far some still have to go. For us all to see the familiar faces of all that took part and were affected as we all came together so tightly those first few months, all the friendships that were formed and the camraderie that was and is felt as only other people that were touched by this all can understand.
We hope to see the community come together once again.
