UPDATE: Good Samaritans Helped Man Escape From SUV in Babylon Canal

A 73-year-old Deer Park man lost control of his SUV on Shore Road in Babylon Friday morning when he suffered a “medical event,” sending the vehicle into a post and then three boats in the water, police said.

Charles Jacob was traveling northbound in a 2007 Nissan Murano on Shore Road, south of Virginia Road, at the time of the crash, which occurred around 9:45 a.m.

Local residents and people working on nearby boats assisted in getting Jacob out of the vehicle, police said.

The Babylon Fire Department was also on scene. Jacob was transported in stable condition to Good Samaritan Hospital by Babylon Rescue.
