Tanner Park, Venetian Shores Beaches Closed to Swimmers
The beaches are closed to bathing due to the finding of bacterial levels in excess of acceptable criteria, officials say.
The Suffolk County Department of Health Services has closed seven beaches to swimming due to the finding of bacterial levels in excess of acceptable criteria.
The following beaches are affected:
- Amityville Village Beach in Amityville
- Tanner Park Beach in Copiague
- Venetian Shores Beach in Lindenhurst
- Copiague Harbor (Great South Bay) POA in Copiague
- Gold Star Battalion Park Beach in Huntington
- Nathan Hale Beach Club in Huntington Bay
- Peconic Dunes County Park (Lake) in Southold
Immersion in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
