Village Officials Install Dozens Of Cameras Around Lindenhurst

Officials have installed the cameras to help deter crime in the area. Do you think this will help?

LINDENHURST, NY - In response to complaints of crime in certain parts of Lindenhurst, village officials installed dozens of new surveillance camera.

The cameras, which will allow officials to monitor the feeds from their smartphones, were installed at several locations including the village's marina, the square, the 9/11 memorial garden and four around the LIRR train station parking lot, Newsday reports.

They were installed in order to prevent crimes such as car break-ins and to make the downtown "safe" and "walkable" for families, Mayor Michael Lavorata told News12.

Several residents have also reported incidents of vandalism and thefts around these areas, especially at the LIRR station, which prompted the decision to install the cameras, Village Administrator Doug Madlon told Newsday.

The installation of the cameras came to $4,206 and the Internet service used by the cameras will cost $154.97 per month for each location.
